Romania: The Marker

It all started towards the end of 2007 when Paul Mates (lead vocals, guitar)began to dream of a band in which he could play in. Earlier, the same year, Paul, together with Andrei Prodan (backing vocals, Bass) quit the band in which they had been singing for 5 years

In January 2008, Paul and Andrei put together a new band, but this time they decided on a new formula and a different style. The new band was made up of 3 people, Paul, Andrei and Octav, with a more dynamic style and English lyrics

Finding a good drummer wasn’t easy, but they had a rough idea of who they were looking for. They met Octav Capota about 2 years earlier, while he was performing at a concert alongside Claudiu Ursache. When they decided to participate at the “Global Battle of the Bands,” they asked Octav ’s friend too, Claudiu to join the band, and he did. And so there were four!

Thus The Marker was ready to perform on stage. Armed with charm and talent the four guys were ready to take on the music industry.

Ever since their debut, The Marker tried to spend as much time as possible on stage, traveling all around Romania for concerts. In 2008 they won the National Phase of Global Battle of the Bands, thus their career took off. The Final Phase of GBOB 2008 was held in London, where The Marker rocked The Scala, making quite an impression on producers and promoters from Canada, Belgium, Japan and other countries. They were also praised by none other than THE SEX PISTOLS.

In 2009 a new career oportunity emerged – they were signed by ROTON, one of the biggest romanian record labels. In november 2009 they had the oportunity to play at the Palace Hall, one of the most prestigious concert venues in Bucharest, opening for the famous romanian pop-rock band Proconsul. They are currently preparing for a charitable National Tour.

Some of their most famous songs are: "If you didn’t love me”, “Yah Weh”, “War”, “Choose to love”
